Chico Ramos releases new album

Story PictureIf you had not heard him lately, that is because Herman ‘Chico’ Ramos was busy working on his latest release. Born the fourth son of Carl and Claudina Ramos, ‘Chico’ was involved in music from an early age and recorded his first album ‘Scratch Up Mi Back’ in 1990. Since then the locally and internationally known Punta artist has produced major tracks such as Karate Punta, Wata Nege Conch Soup, School First and Peke off his latest album—Sports. On his forty-fourth birthday he was named the Godfather of Punta Rock and awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Punta Rock Music Association. And now on his twelfth album, Hand Wash Hand, Chico says that he is doing a Punta fusion of traditional Punta music mixed with Caribbean sounds.

Herman ‘Chico’ Ramos, Punta Artist
“We are focusing on positive message right now so that’s one of the thing that they will be listening to; positive message because everybody thing that Punta is something rowdy right. But to every rowdy thing, dehn have di positive side ah it and weh we di deal wid right now dah di positive side. I think ‘Hand Wash Hand’ dah one ah di best track pan di album, but I still like track two, counselling, cause dah something weh di happen; dah wah true story. Dah something weh I mi deh pan di spot and I just turn it into music.”

“What is ‘Hand Wash Hand’ all about?”

Herman ‘Chico’ Ramos
“It is to help your brother mien because you will never know when you would need that help in return. Track four that track is from Supa G and Reckless giving me thanks and praises for all these years that I have been in the music. I have a recording that I did here with Garifuna Kids in New York track eight. I wrote the song and they played the whole background. So you will hear a little bit of meringue kinda Punta thing along with this Belizean voice. And then ‘Hand Wash Hand’ I have two girls singing in that track—Jolene Dawson and Tamara.”

Chico says that a country tour is in the works. ‘Hand Wash Hand’ is available at all music outlets countrywide at ten dollars.
