Belize City Man Sentenced for Forgery

Kenroy Young

Once a Belize Youth Ambassador to the United Nations, twenty-five year old Kenroy Young was sentenced to prison for forgery. The U.B. graduate has been serving a seven year sentence for burglary for the past three years. Today he was before the courts answering for five counts of uttering a false document after he cashed forged cheques of over fifteen thousand dollars from the account of Regent Insurance Company Limited. Young, who was unrepresented in trial and mitigation, was sentenced to five years for each count of forgery for which he pleaded guilty last week. Judge Lucas subsequently reduced the sentence by five years and ordered that Young’s prison sentence run concurrently. As a result, Young got four years in prison and his sentence is to run consecutively with his burglar charge. Young pleaded for leniency and told the court that he was once an upstanding member of society, citing high profile relatives and involvement in community activities.

I’m sure Mr. Young could, with his qualifications, secure a leadership position with the Department of Lands and Surveys!
