P.U.P. Leader Speaks on Allegations against Dr. Marco Tulio Mendez

Where is Doctor Marco Tulio Mendez? That’s the question everybody’s asking after some very serious and disturbing allegations about the P.U.P. Area Representative in Orange Walk East spread like wildfire on Monday. According to reports Mendez, who is separated from his wife, is being accused by her of inappropriate behavior. Nobody in the family is talking about the very serious allegations, and as far as we’ve been able to ascertain, the police in Orange Walk have not gotten any official reports against Mendez. We do know that today Mendez’s wife and children were at the Human Development office on Orange Walk, but there is no word on what happened there. Like we said, it’s a very disturbing allegation, and on Monday it reached P.U.P.  Leader Francis Fonseca. News Five spoke to Fonseca who told us that he has spoken to Mendez who is denying those allegations.

“It’s very difficult to comment on the matter Mike because as you rightly said all that has been said is speculation, is rumour. I have received no official report of any complaint filed or any other matter placed before the Police or any other entity. I have spoken to Dr. Mendez and his position is that he does not know where these allegations are coming from, what they are. He is going through a difficult separation and his position and the position of his family is that he is going to vigorously defend his name and his reputation. So that is really all that I am aware of. So certainly we will as a Party…we have an obligation to follow the matter closely and I have indicated to Dr. Mendez that we will, and will discuss it further, but that’s all I know. All that is being reported in the media is all I know. I really don’t want to speculate. It’s just too serious a matter. I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves as a Party. As I said I have to maintain Dr. Mendez’s position at this time, which is that he is not aware of these allegations and that he and his family are going to vigorously defend his name and his reputation. That is his position. If any further information comes to light and we are provided with that information, then we will have to look at it obviously as a Party and discuss it and make decisions based on what that decision is.”

There are reports tonight that Doctor Mendez has left the country, but we have been unable to confirm his departure.
