B.D.F. Soldier Busted with Unlicensed Weapon

A B.D.F. soldier is in remand at the Belize Central Prison after he was busted with an illegal weapon and ammunition. Eber Navarette was under surveillance in Benque, and when he headed east, authorities there informed their counterparts in Cayo. Cayo Police moved in and caught him with the goods.

“At the corner of Carmelita Street and Awe Street in San Ignacio Town, he was seen coming out of a taxi with Corozal license place. As a result he was approached by a police officer who informed him that a search will be conducted on his person. He immediately turned around and started to run from the police. An immediate pursuit of him occurred and one of the officers saw when he removed a black object from the back portion of his pants waist and continued running with it in his hand. But the officer lost sight of him for a few seconds because he run into a building. Later, he was captured and informed of the police observation and a preliminary search in the area which revealed. The assistance was of the K-nine was immediately sorted out and when they arrived, near the foot of a building inside was a bag. When it was searched, it was revealed to have on it a nine millimetre pistol and the magazine contained live nine millimetre rounds. As a result he has been charged for kept Firearm without a Gun License and Kept Ammunition without a Gun License. He was arraigned this morning at the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded not guilty and he was remanded to the Kolbe Foundation until the sixteenth of April of this year.”

 

And in respect to a stash of ammunition that was stolen from the B.D.F. base in Ladyville, no arrests have yet been made though it is known that it was an inside job.
