Mendez Attorney Says He Will Be Charged

Marco Tulio Mendez

Tonight, there is little additional information about the serious allegations being made against Doctor Marco Tulio Mendez, the elected representative of Orange Walk East. Reliable information to News Five is that the Human Development office has taken statements from two minors, and that those statements and a report have been handed over to Orange Walk Police. We are also reliably informed that the Police have now launched an investigation but at this time, there are no charges against Mendez.  Still yet that may change in the next few days. Mendez has been out of reach since the allegations arose. On Wednesday, the leader of the P.U.P. said that the party will take actions only when there is concrete information. It is also known that at the executive meeting on Wednesday, Francis Fonseca got the nod from the executive to be able to take action if charges are placed against the embattled doctor. It is not known, however, whether it means expulsion or suspension from the party. This morning, News Five managed to speak to Mendez’s attorney, Dickie Bradley.

Dickie Bradley, Attorney for Marco Tulio Mendez

“It’s much too early for any attorney to comment on the matter. No charges have been brought against the doctor. Until such time when charges are brought we will be in a better position to see what the allegations are against him. The other part of it is of course Party politics.”

“Could you speak to us about his demeanour because he has been out of contact since these allegations arose earlier this week?”

Dickie Bradley

“Well and rightly so because it is unfair to have somebody who more than likely will be charged for something to be speaking. What you say on the news, what you are quoted as saying, can be used against you in a court of law. So at this early stage until he himself knows what are the charges, it would be unfair for him to be saying anything.”

“And finally, at this point is there any indication that there is any report, or that anything concrete has been filed against your client?”

Dickie Bradley

“My understanding is that the Human Development Department has been conducting interviews with persons who they are trying to get the Police involved to get statements from those persons. I am sure because of the political nature of what is happening, the legal and court aspect aside, there is going to be political pressure from Belmopan. The Police will charge that gentleman.”

Also on Wednesday, the party leader said that from his discussions with Mendez, the area rep had no intentions of resigning his seat in the House.
