12 B.D.F. Officers To Answer for Missing Ammo

It has been over a week since the two containers of ammunition were reported missing from the B.D.F. base in Ladyville. One thousand six hundred and eight-five point five-six and a thousand seven point six two ammunition were removed from that holding bay. The initial reaction was and continues to be that it is an inside job and that protocols were breached to get the ammunition out of the compound.  Today, Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Shepherd told News Five that at least a dozen B.D.F. personnel will be held accountable, and even more that among them are high ranking officers.

“We haven’t had any substantial lead that I’d be able to announce today, but what I could tell you that our investigation so far has revealed that our systems and procedures are robust and it is the persons who are entrusted with the responsibility and operate by these procedures have failed us. So in respect to that, several people, about twelve, will be charged for military offences, in particular, being negligent in performing their duties.”

“Are some of these people high ranking B.D.F. officials?”

“To a certain extent because at each level we have a different rank with more responsibility, so for the type of event to have occurred the breach would have to have penetrated each of those levels.”

“How do you go about weeding out and looking at getting people who are going to stick to the policies and the standards of the B.D.F.?”

“Well, it is not just weeding out but it also to charge and to be held accountable to the full extent of the law, because the law provides for them to be in prison for up to a term of two years, so it’s not just a matter of letting go. And that is the reason why we are slow on bringing out the results because we want to be comprehensive. We want to be intensive with that we do, therefore accuracy is more important than speed at this moment.”

“How confident are you that if not all, at least some of the missing ammo will be retrieved?”

“I am not too optimistic in recovering the ammunition. The reason I say this is because we have to manage our expectations. We suspect these ammunition were stolen for the underworld and unless we have a Good Samaritan un the underworld there is no way we will be getting back these ammunition.”
