Santi Undaunted By Darrell’s Municipal Road Works

Santiago ‘Santino’ Castillo

Castillo says that it was common knowledge in Cabinet that Prime Minister Dean Barrow wanted Bradley to run in Freetown, and never wanted him for Caribbean Shores. The Mayor has consistently stated that his eyes are on Caribbean Shores, and Castillo believes that even now, he still has his sights set on that prize.

Santiago ‘Santino’ Castillo, Area Representative, Caribbean Shores

“I believe he does, to a certain extent. Like I said I have no communication with the Mayor, and all the communication we’ve had I have to say has been positive, and I would wish that he wouldn’t do that to the Party, because let’s be honest. If we have a convention and I beat Darrell, his people will turn against me. And if he beats me, my people will turn against him. And depending on how soon the election is, it will take time for those wounds to heal. So I would expect him to be smart and be a team player and say you know what, Santi won that seat by seven hundred votes, I will leave him in there. They’re walking, I’m doing my work now, I am very proactive because I know elections are going to be within the next two or so years…this March will be three years since we were elected. So I would wish he would do that, but if he didn’t, like they say in Spanish…ni modos.”

“Some would say his work is the most visible for the U.D.P.? Are you in any way intimidated if you two would go to a convention?”

Santiago ‘Santino’ Castillo

“No I am not intimidated at all, and nobody will question the work that he has done. Take into consideration that he got a twenty million dollar bond, and he also got another twenty million dollars from government. As a businessman I can tell you that it’s very easy to spend money…it’s very hard to pay it back.”

Castillo admits that the one time he texted the Mayor with a list of streets he wanted paved, the work was done. Of course he says he doesn’t know if the Mayor did that to benefit him, or to benefit himself.
