Brian Herrera gets life behind bars for Murder

Story PictureIn the Supreme Court meanwhile, one man found out that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. The accused, twenty -four year old Brian Herrera, also known as Bedo was found guilty of taking the life of forty-nine Eugene Encalada. The trial has been on hold for over a month because Herrera had to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and a social assessment. While Herrera’s identity was concealed by a mask on the night of the murder, there was enough to seal a conviction. But it was not an easy decision for the jurors, who deliberated twice before coming up with a guilty verdict. Herrera’s mother, Norma Raynaue, and his uncle Edward both gave pleas for mitigation but Justice Oswell Legall handed down a life sentence, partly because of his long rap sheet. On the night of October seventeenth, Encalada was shot and killed on Dean Street by a masked man on a bicycle. While he has been convicted of Encalada’s murder, Herrera was recently on trial for the shooting death of forty-three year old Winston Charles Castillo but those charges were dropped because of a lack of evidence.
