New Leads in New Year’s Day Murder of Teakettle Resort Manager
Like we said, that brings the murder count for the Belmopan jurisdiction to three. The first occurred on New Year’s Day at the Dream Valley Resort in Teakettle. Resort manager, Yaima Duany Ledesma was shot and killed in broad daylight in front of patrons. Two men walked into the bar at the resort and ordered drinks before opening fire on the thirty-year old Cuban national. Ledesma was hit once to the head and body before her attackers fled the scene. It was widely speculated that the motive behind the hit included a personal relationship gone sour, but there are new leads in the investigation and police say that they are awaiting results from the forensic department to make arrests.
Supt. Howell Gillett, O.C., Belmopan Police Formation
“There are three murders so far for the year 2015 and as you rightly said, Miss Yaima’s case is being actively investigated. As a matter of fact, it is a somewhat sophisticated investigation, but we are drawing nearer to a conclusion as it relates to this case.”
Duane Moody
“Has the police been able to determine a motive behind these murders. I know in the case of the resort manager, a motive was not ascertained at the time of the murder.”
Supt. Howell Gillett
“As it stands now, it seems that the resort’s murder was a hit directly on the deceased. The one with Miss Yaima, we are awaiting some forensic returns and after that I think we will be able to say that we are pretty much to a close with that one.”
