P.U.P. Mayoral Candidate Will Work for Free

On the podium, successful businesswoman and aspiring Mayor Yolanda Schakron also made a commitment that if she is elected, she would work for free. In the past we’ve heard aspiring teams commit to taking a cut in salary, but we’ve never had a Mayor agree to serve pro bono. Schakron says she’s made up her mind, and will use the money as assistance for city residents who cannot afford the cost of education.

“I am someone who believes in education. When you educate your children you are empowering a nation. As I walk through the city I have seen that there is a great issue with people not being able to send their kids to school. I have been doing education funding for a lot of kids through my business. I wanted to expand that, so I decided…after praying a lot about it…it’s really something that gets to me when I see children out of school, or mothers cannot afford to send all their children to high school so they have to make a decision. I decided that I will take my salary and start an education fund for the children of this city who are out of school, who the Minister of Education should be helping. I decided that is what I want to do because I believe that our youths have fallen through the cracks.  It’s good to have money and it’s good because you can get things you need, but after a while in your life when you have achieved much, money is not important any more. It’s important to see how you can help others. It’s important to see how you can empower other people. God has blessed me and I want to help others now.”
