An Update on 2015 Sugar Cane Crop

Ezequiel Cansino

In other developments in the sugar belt…Since opening on January twenty-sixth, the 2014-2015 sugar crop has been off to a slightly rocky start with milling coming to a grinding halt just few days later.  While projections are that there is more cane to be harvested this year than in previous seasons, there are still a few hiccups preventing the process of cane delivery from being optimal.  According to B.S.C.F.A. Chairman, Ezequiel Cansino, the ratio of tons of cane to tons of sugar is acceptable and they anticipate that it will only get better with the oncoming dry season.

Ezequiel Cansino, Chairman, B.S.C.F.A.

“We are going alright, we are going okay with the crop even though we are having some small problems with the mill.  But, overall we are okay, especially with the TCTS.  We are okay with the TCTS, we have good purity, good harvest right now and we are expecting to get much better as the dry season comes.  But up to now we have a good crop and we are expecting to do much better in the future.”

It is expected that a total of one point two million tons of cane will be delivered to Tower Hill this season after losing roughly ten million dollars due to the late start.
