Ruling in Brown case postponed until Tuesday
Extradition proceedings against Andrew and Floyd Brown were delayed today in Belize City Magistrate’s Court as Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord continues to deliberate on requests from the prosecution to seek guidance from the Belize Supreme Court. Lord is now expected to make his ruling tomorrow. In previous proceedings, Lord had deemed tape recorded evidence submitted by Solicitor General Elson Kaseke inadmissible, who in turn moved a “case stated” motion asking Lord to let the high court rule on the matter. Lead defence attorney Dean Barrow has taken strong objection to Kaseke’s request, arguing that the government should wait until the end of the lower court proceedings before appealing any decision it may make in the case. Andrew and Floyd Brown are wanted in the United States on drug related charges in connection with the 1999 seizure of forty-two pounds of cocaine in Port Everglades, Florida.
