OCEANA Rocks the Vote on March 1st
OCEANA will be celebrating three years since The People’s Referendum. It made history back in 2012 and this year they will celebrate in grand style with a free concert called Rock The Vote on Sunday, March first. Director of Communication, Alyssa Carnegies tells us more.
Alyssa Carnegie, Director of Communication, Oceana
“February twenty-ninth 2012 is actually when the People’s Referendum was held. March first this year signifies the third anniversary of when the People’s Referendum was held. So we thought, what a better way of highlighting the first and only national poll that was taken on this issue, in terms of Belizeans have a say and come out and vote and show what their feelings are towards offshore oil exploration in Belize; and say, have a concert where we can commemorate this wonderful event and celebrate democracy in our country and celebrate the voice of the people. The artists have been approaching Oceana to see what they can do and how they can participate and we are very excited to have all these amazing artists come together to say no to offshore oil and to help and to show support and to encourage Belizeans, young and old, to come out and let their voices be heard as well.”
