Call to Artists for Women in Art Exhibition
The annual Women in Art Exhibition will open at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts on March twelfth. It takes place during Women’s Month as one of the calendar events for the celebration. The exhibition will feature spoken word, song, painting and other aspects of the creative arts…created solely by women. The theme for this year is “Shadows,” for which the artists will have to create unique pieces in their respective talent. But the exhibit is only two weeks away and today the curator, Rachel Heusner, took the opportunity to invite women from across the country to apply to have their art form featured.
Rachel Heusner, Curator, Women in Art Exhibition 2015
“The theme of the show is “Shadows” and the reason we decided on it is so we that it can move our art to another level. Most of the time, people create two-dimensional artwork and they tend to miss out a very important aspect that brings things to life. The “Shadow” theme, I know the call for artists, which is happening now, went out a little bit late, but we will still like to invite the artists to as much as possible work within that frame of shadows to see how they see shadows in their world.”

“Are you looking at only…when it comes to arts, there are various types of art. Are you looking just to maybe painting or are you looking at poetry and all these other aspects?”
Rachel Heusner
“Definitely, whatever art form you are familiar with and that brings excitement to your life, we want all of that involved in it so that we could involve all the senses.”
“Now the people that you are targeting—I know that it is women primarily—but is there a particular age range or anybody in general?”
Rachel Heusner
“No. Well more mature persons, but children as long as the work is good because we will go through a little scrutiny. So if it is show worthy definitely it doesn’t matter the person’s age, we will show it.”
