Slusher Back With the National Selection
The last time we heard from the Football Federation, there was an impasse between Assistant Coach, Charlie Slusher, and the Executive of the F.F.B.; Slusher was removed from the coaching staff of the national ‘A’ selection team for violating regulations. But that was then and according to President, Ruperto Vicente and Slusher, their differences have now been put aside in the interest of the team and sport.
Charlie Slusher, Assistant Coach, National ‘A’ Team, F.F.B.
“As long as myself and Mister Vicente, the president, we want to achieve the same goal. So as long as our intention is to make football to become successful in the country, it was easy. It wasn’t a difficult thing. I want to do my best, the president wants to do his best. So if we really wanted to do that, it wasn’t a difficult decision for any of us to make because we wanted the same goal, which is to make Belizean football be successful.”
Ruperto Vicente, President, F.F.B.
“Football is a dynamic sport and football is played on the football field – two teams playing against each other so in any administration there will be differences. I’ve always said to you, the media, that yes there was differences between the federation and Charlie Slusher, but that we will never—as the President of the Federation—I will never close the door on a Belizean coach because we want that our Belizean coach be developed and take full control of our national teams. We believe that we have coaches like Charlie Slusher who have great potential in leading our national team. And I believe I’ve done all my best to bring Charlie Slusher back into our camp. He is a Belizean, he played football, he has been trained as a coach and there is no way, as president of the federation, I will allow a Belizean coach, who has played football, to be left outside of the federation.”
