Suspected getaway driver charged in Princess heist
Police have been successful in apprehending one of the men they believe drove the getaway car following a robbery at the Princess Hotel and Casino last month. Twenty-six year old tour guide, Egbert Vernon was charged with robbery today in Magistrate’s Court. Although he pleaded not guilty, under the Crimes Control Act, bail cannot be granted if a firearm was used in the commission of the crime. Vernon was remanded to custody until the start of trial on August tenth. On July twenty-fifth, five Princess Hotel staff members were in the accounts office when two men came in and held them up at gunpoint. The robbers made off with sixty-five thousand dollars then merely walked out the compound and got into a brown Nissan car parked by the B.T.L. Park. So far none of the money has been recovered and the two men are still at large.
