One prisoner caught, two remain at large

Story PictureAs the manhunt continues for the prisoners who escaped on Wednesday, police report that they have apprehended a fourth inmate this afternoon. Carlton Lord Jr. was discovered hiding out in an abandoned house on Plues Street in Belize City. Police were led to the location by a call from a concerned citizen. Two men, Robert Hill and Edwin Vanegas, remain at large tonight. A total of six inmates escaped yesterday afternoon by overpowering the bus driver as they were being transported to Hattieville prison. Today Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid told News Five about the ongoing efforts to capture Hill and Vanegas, and the measures being taken to make the transfer of prisoners more secure.

G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer
?But we have an extensive manhunt underway. All formations have been alerted and people are looking vigilantly.?

Jacqueline Woods
?Do you know if the getaway was something that was planned well in advance or it was decided as they were all onboard this bus??

G. Michael Reid
?At this point we don?t know that. We have been certainly asking them. These aren?t guys that are going to be giving up information so readily. We believe that this might have been in the making for some time. The bust has been looked at for some time and there were plans underway to do the improvements necessary. Unfortunately, it had not been done but that is now being done as we speak. The recommendation has been to put a grille gate between the driver and the passengers on the bus, and this was in the making. As I said, it was going to be done, but it just hadn?t been done in time.?

The public is asked to be on the lookout for Robert Hill and Edwin Vanegas, who are considered dangerous. In particular, motorists are asked not to pick up any hitchhikers. Anyone with information on Hill or Vanegas is asked to contact the police.
