Perdomo unseats Ayuso for U.D.P. nomination
It was a battle royal in Caribbean shores on Sunday and when the dust settled that key Belize City constituency had a new U.D.P. standard-bearer. He is Carlos Perdomo. Perdomo waged an insurgent’s campaign against incumbent aspirant and Deputy Party Leader Oscar Ayuso and in the end came out on top five hundred and thirty-three votes to four hundred and ninety-one. Reports from Trinity Methodist School in King’s Park indicate that the convention had all the trappings of a general election campaign, including last minute transfers and financial incentives. While Perdomo is a newcomer to electoral politics, he is a long-time party activist with close ties to the U.D.P. leadership. As for Ayuso, he has written a letter to party leader Dean Barrow resigning his post as first Deputy Leader and it is believed he will take a break from politics.
