Belizean drowns in Rio Hondo
Authorities in Mexico have confirmed that a Belizean who died in the Rio Hondo on Monday was a victim of drowning. According to reports, eighteen-year-old Jorge Cantun of Santa Clara Village in the Corozal District was swimming with his girlfriend when a patrol boat of the Mexican Navy passed close to them. It is speculated that the wake caused Cantun to knock his head against a bridge column or the hull itself may have struck the teen. In any case, he went under and by the time he was pulled to safety, it was too late. The post-mortem concluded that Cantun died of asphyxia due to drowning.
