Teen Arrested in Roaring Creek Murder
Since the start of the year, there have been five murders and several shootings in the Belmopan Area. So far, the murders of Yaima Ledesma, Emerson Daly Junior, Feliciano Noralez and John Smith, all of which are in the jurisdiction of the Belmopan Police Formation, have gone unsolved. And while it would seem that the police have been slow in making arrests, they came up on their first for the fifth murder involving Elroy Ramirez in Roaring Creek. Earlier this week, nineteen year old Hugh Milton was arrested and charged for the March fifth murder of Ramirez. Milton’s case was adjourned until eleventh of June. Officer in Charge at Belmopan, Superintendent Howell Gillett, says that while they have made only one arrest, they are working on the latest shooting. He also said that Belmopan Police met on Thursday to map a way forward to help with the reduction of crime in the area.
Supt. Howell Gillett, O.C., Belmopan Police
“There were, I think, it was four murders for this year in the Roaring Creek area. We’ve just recently, as a matter of fact, as last week Friday, we have arrested one person for murder, you know. And then, there is this last shooting that happened on Sunday. We are still pending on making an arrest in that case. We have some suspects who we are looking for but we haven’t been able to capture them at this moment. We thought it necessary to dialogue with the people in Roaring Creek. That is a hot area for us at this time. So, we met with all the pastors of that area, about ten pastors and we came up with a number of initiatives. This Friday, we are going to meet at the Roaring Creek Basketball court where we have a church service, but the police will have a time when they speak with the public.”
