San Pedro watchman killed by robbers

Four men have been detained in San Pedro for what appears to be a burglary that degenerated into murder. Fifty-year-old Antonio Almendarez, a watchman at Fido’s Restaurant and Bar, was found dead at the establishment around dawn this morning. He was gagged and tied to a chair and displayed injuries to the head. Last seen by a police patrol at three-thirty a.m., authorities believe that Almendarez was accosted by burglars who subdued him, tied and gagged him, and in the process hit him with a blunt object in the head. A post-mortem scheduled for Wednesday will seek to reveal the cause of death. Of the four men detained for questioning, two are out on bail for the theft of a safe from the San Pedro Town Board earlier this month.
