Belizean arrested in Miami as part of Brown drug case
The plot continues to thicken in efforts by U.S. authorities to break up an alleged major cocaine exporting operation based in Belize. The latest development involves the arrest of Belizean Steve Reneau in Miami as he disembarked from his flight from Belize on Friday. According to U.S. press reports, the forty-six year old Reneau was indicted by a federal grand jury in Miami in December. The single conspiracy count was in connection with the seizure of forty-two pounds of cocaine at Port Everglades, Florida, in 1999. His alleged co-conspirators were Andrew and Floyd Brown, the two men now in Hattieville Prison awaiting extradition to the Sates at the request of the U.S. government.
Sources in Belize close to Reneau indicate that he knew that he was being sought by authorities in Florida and thought it best to face the indictment head on. Reneau, a well-known business promoter, has for many years divided his time between residences in Miami and Belize. He was one of the early purchasers of a home in the Los Lagos subdivision in Ladyville and has live there for a number of years. He has known the Browns for much of his life and we understand that on numerous occasions has made purchases for them in Miami as part of a business service he offers. He is also known to socialise with the brothers. Friends of Reneau tell News Five that he believed U.S. authorities have long been trying to pin something on him, but he strongly maintains his innocence. Reneau is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Miami.
