Social Workers Busted for Weed
Two Early Childhood teachers employed as social workers with the Human Services Department and the boyfriend of one of the teachers, were before the court today to answer to a single count of drug trafficking. This follows a police raid at their home on Louise Bevans Street, Belize City, in which they found a bag of weed containing less than a pound of cannabis in the yard. The trio is twenty-one year old James Herrera, his girlfriend, twenty-six year old Honduran national, Evelyn Gamboa Bermudez, and twenty-year old Deshawm Moguel. Both women claim they are employed with the Human Services and that they teach children over the age of three in the Early Childhood education program. They pleaded not guilty and were offered bail on the conditions that they must report to the Queen Street Police Station every Monday, beginning this coming Monday and that they are to stay away from the virtual complainant and any other police witness. In the case of Bermudez, a Belizean had to sign her bail and she was also ordered to surrender all her travelling documents to the Clerk of Court before she could meet bail. The trio was able to meet bail and all members are home tonight.
