Belize City Duo Charged for Kidnapping Abel Lara Jr.
Also in court, forty year old Amir Reid, of a Faber’s Road address, along with twenty-eight year old construction worker of Race Course Street, Alexander Lopez, were jointly charged for Kidnapping, Conspiracy to Commit Kidnap and Harm upon Belize City resident, Abel Lara Junior which allegedly occurred on March sixteenth. According to Lara, he was on Faber’s Road, when a van pulled up and he was dragged inside and tied before the van drove off taking him to Mile Eight on the George Price Highway. Lara also claims that the men accused him of stealing some weed and that to get away he told them he would take them to where the weed was. As Lara and the others were walking on the highway, they spotted a vehicle prompting the men to flee, except for Lara Junior who claims he flagged down the vehicle, jumped into it and managed to escape. He was then taken to the nearest police station where he reported the kidnapping to the police. In court this morning no plea was taken from Reid and Lopez for kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnap and because of the nature of the offenses no bail was offered. On the charge for harm, the duo pleaded not guilty. According to the prosecutor, Corporal Christopher Smith, the case against the men is strong and if granted bail they could well interfere with the victim since they know him well. Reid and Lopez were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May fourteenth, 2015.
