City Resident Remanded for Attempted Murder
There was also a shooting in the city over the weekend. Early on Saturday morning, police headed to the corner of Faber’s Road and Central American Boulevard, where they found a pair of red and black slippers and a bicycle lying on the blooded sidewalk. Twenty-eight year old Kareem Stevens was riding his bicycle on his way home when he was approached by a car from which several shots were fired at him. Stevens was hit to the right leg and once to his rear, but he managed to get a look at his shooter, who he identified as Curlan Phillips. Later that day, Phillips was detained by police and escorted to the police station where he was slapped with three criminal charges and this morning he was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. The unemployed resident of Curl Thompson Street in the Jane Usher Boulevard area was arraigned for Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm upon Stevens. Because of the nature of the offence, Phillips was denied bail and remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until June twenty-first, 2015. Phillips recently got Supreme Court bail for an offense for which the lower court could not grant him bail. At the time of his most recent arrest, he was out on Supreme Court bail. Phillips is no stranger to the court or the police. He has a number of other criminal matters pending trial before the court.
