Police officer guilty of civilian death
In his first trial there was a hung jury, but today a jury of nine unanimously found Police Constable Sherwood Wade guilty of manslaughter by negligence in the 2003 death of Darnell McDonald. The jury determined he was not guilty of manslaughter, a more serious charge. There was only one witness in the case, Darnell’s brother Selvin, who was driving the van on the night of June fourteenth, 2003. The McDonalds were unfortunate enough to be passing Celina’s club when police were attempting to detain Michael Arnold and fired at his vehicle, hitting the McDonald brothers? blue van instead. Darnell was hit in the head by a bullet. Wade has been remanded to Hattieville until July twentieth when he will reappear for mitigation pleas and sentencing.
