Excellence tops Brilliant in game 1 cricket

Story PictureGood evening, I?m James Adderley with this fresh dish of Sports Monday. The Harrison Parks National Cricket Tournament staged game one of the three game championship series for 2005 at Crooked Tree Saturday where Brilliant hoped to take a one-game lead over archrival Excellence of Double Head Cabbage.

The home team elects to bat last, so Excellence sends up Emmanuel McFadzean Jr. to get the action going. However, Lyle Tillett, after sizing him up, bowls this beauty that has wickets flying all over the place.

However, we must mention that today the Double Head batters are simply excellent and this six by Silbert Martinez tells that tale. Silbert then burns them again with yet another six. Of course, Excellence also gets help from Ian Broaster who strikes for four right here. When Silbert gets run off the pitch, his nephew Sidney Martinez takes over and he gets things going with this four.

Against Arturo Wade, Sidney Martinez lashes this six that should have been caught by the outfield. Landis Wade then comes up to serve something different, but Sidney produces anther six. Against the elder statesman who is bowling, Oswald Gillette the oldest player in the post season, who is sixty-five years of age, Sidney Martinez smokes another six. He would finish with a game high forty-four runs batted in.

In the meantime, maybe Alpheus Gillett might need gloves after babbling this crucial out. Even when Sidney is put out, he does get help as his teammate McFadzean fills the void with a six.

With a tally of two hundred and nine runs Brilliant of Crooked Tree looks to shut down Excellence of Double Head, so Brads Panting smashes this ball which rises and it?s the oldest man on the field, Oswald Gillette, who comes in with sure hands for the out. Some of the younger players could learn something from sixty-five year old veteran.

Oswald Gillette, Brilliant
?Well the catch was a ball that was driven with the intention to go on the outfield, but it didn?t catch the bat very good and it was high and I tried to catch it. I was up in midfield sorta close on and I went towards the catch and the ball was going away from me, and at the last moment I realise the ball was gonna beat me, so I made a leap backward and that?s how I got hit behind my head. But the catch was in my hand, the ball was in my hand, so that?s the main thing.?

?I still love the energy. It?s a game that I love. I?ve played it almost thirty-five years and there are teams out there who still need me, and if that is the case then I?ll always be there, as long as the good Lord give me the energy and the strength.?

So the chase for Brilliant begins, and it gets off positive with this four from Landis Wade. Unfortunately, Brilliant fell much short of its goal totalling only one hundred and sixty runs for all out to lose game one by all of forty-nine runs.

Game two in this magnificent rural cricket series comes up Saturday at Double Head Cabbage. You won?t want to miss it.
