James Andrews and Jose David Gomez Granted Bail for Gang Rape

Jose David Gomez

This afternoon in a bail application heard by Justice Troadio Gonzalez of the Supreme Court, two young men were granted bail for the offense of rape.  They are James Andrews and Jose David Gomez.  Both were ordered to surrender all travelling documents before they could post bail.  They were also ordered not to interfere with the alleged victim and they are to stay out of trouble. The duo must also report to the Independence police station once a week.  In the bail application the petitioners were represented by attorney Kathleen Lewis for James Andrews and attorney Kevin Arthurs represented Jose David Gomez. Both are accused of being among a group of five men who raped a minor. So far police have only levied charges against three men and are seeking the two others.  The incident occurred in the San Ignacio area on a school outing but the men involved are from a tertiary level school down south.  Police said the three were arraigned and charged in the San Ignacio Magistrate Court on Monday and remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
