Eight young ladies will compete in a pageant this weekend to determine who will be the next Miss Gwen Liz. According to organisers, the contestants have been in training for the last four weeks. Trainer Loretta Gonzalez says it is more than just a show.
Loretta Gonzalez, Trainer
?It?s a lot of work because as you all have known, we have a tradition that we try to keep up and whenever our contestants win here they go on to become the next Miss Belize. The most popular person we know is Miss Ava Lovell. And that is the calibre that we go into. And we go into a real magnitude of work with them because you have the talent segment, you have the introductory dance, and it?s almost like a Miss Belize. Because for the introductory dance they will come out in a costume that depicts the area that they are representing in Belize that tourists want to go. So it?s a really family oriented thing, so everybody should be there too.?
The pageant is divided into different segments, including talent, formal wear and question and answer. For the contestants, preparations leading up to this weekend?s pageant have been fun and exciting.
Melissa Young
?I?m taking part in this pageant because I want to help raise funds for our school. Our school needs a lot of help and I really want people to come out and support us at that night.?
Shadene Ottley
?The theme is ?The Tradition Continues.? It?s an annual pageant and on this night each young lady will be representing each aspect of Belize. I am the Rainforest Temptress. You have the Mayan Goddess, you have the Heritage Fairy, you have the Marine Glory, etcetera.?
Gonzalez says support from the pageant has been coming from different parts of the community and she anticipates a good programme on Saturday night.
Loretta Gonzalez
?People from the community have been coming in and offering their services. We have the model agency which is from Mr. Gentle. And we also have your very own Karaoke TV winner, the king, Mr. Fabro will be doing his own segment. And he will also be serenading the girls. We have Belizean Movement, our D.J. is D.J. Bush and our M.C. is Miss Edith Tesecum and Alfrain Supal. So it will be fun-filled, so everybody should be out there.?

?Eight young ladies taking part in this pageant, who is going to win??
