Murder on Father’s Day – Friend Stabs Friend During Argument

Friend killed friend on Father’s Day? That’s what happened on Sunday night in Belize City. It is alleged that in the midst of an argument between two friends who were under the influence of alcohol, a knife was pulled out and in a matter of minutes another was stabbed in the chest and later died at the K.H.M.H. after eleven that night. Andrea Polanco was out on this story today and has this report.

A father’s day celebration on Sunday night on Kelly Street turned deadly. An argument escalated into murder and where shortly before midnight, forty four year old Carrington Bodden was dead. Bodden was socializing with friends when he was stabbed to the chest. Today, his brother, Dean, recounted the sequence of events from what he’d gathered.

“Earlier, right, Ma’m. we me di em got wah lee Father’s Day thing and we mi di eat and got some lee drinks and thing yuh know. But due to how the liquor start jump inna man head and man start to talk crazy against one another and thing you know. But nothing like that neva happen earlier like that still yuh know. Nothing neva gone on a like that. When I gone and buy four stout.”

“So, you mi deh out deh?”

Dean Bodden

“Yes, I mi deh out but I mi deh out earlier. I neva deh on the scene when ih happen but it happen when I gone buy the stout and dah when I come back. My bredda haul up on me and tell me, ‘give me a ride bredda.’ I ask ah dah weh happen and he tell me no worry about nothing I get stab and I gwein dah the hospital.”

“Yuh nuh si ah the bleed or anything?”

Dean Bodden

“No. I nuh si anything I nuh even conscious dah stab he get.  My lee bwai from yah di tell me that the bwai come with a machete and wah knife after he too and deh time deh he mussie done juck my bredda and thing, yuh get the sense? Deh time I neva deh on crime scene or anything.”

“To which part ah yuh bredda body ih get stabbed?”

Dean Bodden

“I hear dah one inna ih heart. Yuh get the sense? One stab inna ih heart; one stab.”

“You know if ih drop down and dead immediately or ih walk bout?”

Dean Bodden

“When I lend ah my bike dah because fu he ride go dah hospital, he nuh even reach the hospital. He drop right down deh on the ground.”

“Dead?”

Dean Bodden

“I si the man eye di tun up. The man eye di tun up. I tell my lee bwai deh get a vehicle and ker my bredda dah hospital but by the time call come back to me dah because the man done dead.”

Bodden’s family says that the news of the stabbing took them for surprise. According to Dean Bodden, liquor played a part. After all, Carrington and the alleged killer, Sanjay Pilgrim, were close friends.

“Deh dah good friends. Deh dah friend from ever since yuh know and dah like mi bwai trust he more than me because like he fear me in a sense fi no stay close to ah since my bredda close to he. Then bam deh always got deh lee stupid talking between one another but nothing nuh really effect or come outta it.”

“So, you neva expect it fi go to that level?”

Dean Bodden

“Yeah. I neva expect it fi reach deh levels deh. Deh dah two friends from eva since.”

“You think it was intentional? That they mean fi kill ah?”

Dean Bodden

“Dah nuh mean fi kill ah. Dah wah liquor thing. Dah the demon dah the liquor demon do that.”

Alcohol aside, what would cause such good friends to end a celebration in murder? Dean Bodden noted that his brother and the alleged killer, Sanjay Pilgrim, would always have minor arguments. But, he wasn’t a party to that argument on Sunday night.

“Fi he baby ma mi deh inna the street because he like trip pahn ih baby ma when ih get nice. When he get high and thing he wah kill fi he baby ma and do lotta thing. So, dat dah weh mek the whole thing get seasoned up. And my bredda tell ah, ‘bwai why you wah deal with your gial like dat and thing; go sleep and relax yuself and thing.’ And he say that he nuh even wah deal with that cause he have to kill something he wah kill ih baby ma. I nuh wah this [bleep] mek this [bleep] go.”

“And then ih turn pahn your bredda?”

Dean Bodden

“Yeah.”

“So, you wudda she your bredda dah neva really wah part ah the argument?”

Dean Bodden

“No.”

“So, he was trying to diffuse the situation?”

Dean Bodden

“Yeah. Pan the real mien.”

It’s reported that a knife of six inches retrieved from the accused. He remains in police custody pending investigation.
