Retired Public officers Honoured
Public Service Day is celebrated every year on June twenty-third. On Tuesday, a number of public officers with twenty-five years of service were honored at the tenth Annual Belize Public Service Awards held at Blue Water Grill in San Pedro Ambergris Caye. The event is organized by the Ministry of the Public Service to recognize public officers for their hard work and dedication as well as their outstanding accomplishments in serving the people and Government of Belize. That was on Tuesday, but today, another group of persons received awards in Belize City. Fifteen retired public officers who gave over twenty-five years of service as exemplary officers in the public sector were honored.
Anissa Perdomo, District Chair, Belize City Public Service Committee
“We’ve been having this award for the past three years now and for this week we are entertaining public officers throughout the day, throughout the country. But what about our retired public officers that weren’t given the twenty-five years? The program for giving out awards for the twenty-five years started in 2006; some of these retired public officers that we are honoring today didn’t get the twenty-five years certificate. So the Belize City Public Service Committee decided we are going to make this an event for us every year. So we are hosting fifteen retired public officers. We go through a list of criteria and of course from different areas—not only our doctors and nurses, but public officers working the office. These public officers that have gotten the award from us over the past three years have been so grateful that they are recognized after so many years. We have public officers that have been out over thirty-seven years and have never gotten an award. So they found it very grateful for us giving them something in return. Most of these public officers have been out forty years; that’s years of experience that we can learn from them. Sometimes these public officers had an imprint on the area of the government that they were working on and that is passed down to us. And as such, bringing in the old with the new, we can learn from it as well.”

“So what are they getting today?”
Anissa Perdomo
“We are having official ceremony with the minister, as one of the speaker; we have a retired public officer as our guest speaker, Misses Lisbeth Castillo. And also a luncheon we are giving to them. We have public officers serving them today and we are also giving them a small plate or a plaque as you would want to say.”
Honored today were Telford Moody Senior, Anthony Belisle, Dorothy Budram, Faye Pollard, Winston Grant, Godswell Flores, Michael Usher, Kent locke, Carmen Barrow, Sandra Kingston, Andre Ayuso, Jean Lucas, Adolph Lucas, Marjorie Scott and Cynthia Nunez.
