Nolle Pros – Brian Welch Freed of Attempted Murder Charge
In the Supreme Court before Justice Troadio Gonzalez, the office of the D.P.P. entered a nolle prosequi in the case against twenty-eight year old Brian Welch of Belize City. He was accused of the attempted murder of the then nineteen year old Alfredo Rodriguez, another Belize City resident. On September fifteen, 2012, Rodriguez fingered Welch as the gunman who shot him. This morning when trial was scheduled to start, Welch, who was represented in court by Senior Crown Counsel Ellis Arnold, learnt that he was being set free because Rodriquez did not cooperate with the police and court. Rodriguez had initially claimed that he was riding his bicycle heading towards Central American Boulevard when he was approached by Welch who fired four to five shots in his direction, one which caught him on left side of his lower back. Welch, however, can be brought back to trial.
