Corozal Man Remanded For Aggravated Assault
Twenty-six year old Oren Vaughan is tonight on remand for committing an aggravated assault with a firearm upon his ex-girlfriend, Sharon Wade. Wade, a Corozal resident, reported to police that she was at a friends’ house in the city when her ex-boyfriend, Vaughan, arrived at the yard and cranked what appeared to be a firearm at her. This afternoon, at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, Vaughan’s attorney, Oscar Selgado, told the court that his client is a mental patient and a deaf mute and that the victim does not want any further court action. But the Chief Magistrate informed Selgado that there has to be a written statement for her to entertain a withdrawal of the serious charge. But Selgado was unable to provide the court with the recorded statement from the victim, so Vaughan will spend the weekend at the Queen Street Police Station until next week when he is brought back to court.
