Murdered shopkeeper mourned by Chinese community

Story PictureFive days after she was brutally stabbed during a robbery at her family store in Orange Walk, services were held today for the young businesswoman, wife, and mother. A large crowd gathered to say farewell.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
Following funeral services for twenty-six year old Lou Xiao Yue, better known as Susan, there was a procession that led from the La Immaculada Church through the principal streets of Orange Walk Town. The coffin was then transported to a private property situated off the Yo Creek Road where her body was cremated. The Chairman of the Belize Chinese Association in Orange Walk, Tony Lee, says members are touched by the outpouring of sympathy expressed by the community at large.

Tony Lee, Chair, Bz. Chinese Assn., O.W
?Well everybody liked the support, and myself, I can?t believe the number of support we have gotten from the community and the whole Orange Walk. And I appreciate everyone for contributing to the support of this matter and everything and I thank everyone.?

Lou leaves behind her husband and three-year-old son. According to Lee it was Lou?s wish to have her remains burned.

Tony Lee
?Well this was decided because when she was alive she mentioned it to her husband that if she ever got to die in Belize she wanted to be close to her family back in China. So she wanted them to burn her ashes and take her ashes back to China so she can be close to her family, and this is the reason why we are performing this ceremony today.?

But as the Chinese community, the family and friends say goodbye to Lou, the police have been working hard to catch her killer, believed to be somewhere in the Orange Walk District.

Tony Lee
?The police have been very, very responsive, assistful in responding to any suspect, so I really appreciate what the police has done for us and thank them for their responsiveness and their continued support in trying to catch this criminal.?

B.C.A. Orange Walk is offering a reward of five thousand dollars to anyone who can lead police to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed Lou Xiao Yue. Jacqueline Woods for News Five.
