Political reform is topic of S.J.C. lecture

It has been an academic tradition for fifteen years: the Signa Yorke Lecture series. This year, organisers at St. John’s College Junior College have announced that three panellists will present their thoughts on a topic that can only be described as timely: Political Reform. Moderating the discussion will be committee representative Andrew Lopez. According to Lopez, the event will echo the mandate of S.J.C. to provide public service to the Belizean people.

?In a public forum beyond the halls of the Landivar campus, we want to continue to educate Belizeans on issues that are important to us. And this is what the public lecture is all about. To say it in the words of Signa Yorke, I remember she once told me, ?Drew it is very important that we inform Belizeans, we use every opportunity to inform Belizeans about issues that are of salient importance to them because ultimately the more informed we are as Belizeans, the better decisions we can make in terms of how we want to go, the better decisions we can make to lead us in the direction of greater progress.? So we the organisers hope that at the end of the day after this lecture, we will be better informed on a very, very important issue to Belize and Belizeans.?

This year’s panellists include attorney Lois Young Barrow, former university professor Dr. Gilda Lewis and historian and political activist David Price. The event is scheduled for Thursday night at seven at the Princess Hotel and Casino in Belize City. Admission is free.
