“King of the Ballers” heats up the basketball court
Good evening, I?m James Adderley and you?re locked into this fresh dish of Sports Monday. The King of the Ballers Basketball Tournament returned to Big Bird?s Isle Friday night with the Ballers boasting a one-game lead in this three game championship series against B.T.L.?s Scare Dem Bullets.
It?s a quick start for the Blackballers when Kevin Seroki spots Ernest Broaster in his office; Broaster delivers a right hand slam. At the opposite end, Darwin Leslie rings up two points for the phone company by weaving through traffic.
Down by five, the Blackballers find Keith Acosta and Superman strikes for three–he finish with the game high of twenty-eight points. At the end of the first quarter nevertheless, they?re down by one point.
Talk about threading the needle folks, watch Earl Johnson find Ty Bradley with a sizzler–Bradley would finish with eight points.
Nobody puts a body on B.T.L.?s triggerman Joshua Jones, so he swoops in for two of his team-high twenty-seven points.
The Ballers come right back with this showcase slam from Keith Acosta, but at the half B.T.L.?s Scare Dem Bullets boast a two-point lead.
In the third quarter, A.C. Augustine gives his team the lead with this three-point shot–A.C. would record twenty-three points in game two.
However, the third belonged to B.T.L. Carlisle Barrow intercepts, no looks to the streaking Joshua Jones; he gets the bucket and then gets three the hard way to grab the lead back for the phone company.
When Jones misses this three-point attempt, Darwin Leslies stays around the ring to come up with a very important put-back.
Jones then finds Earl Johnson who finds two of his eighteen points with this move, and yes, Joshua Jones rises up for three and does get it this time.
We?re into the fourth quarter and Jones is still hot so he dials from long-distance again. In fact folks, Keith Acosta tried to bring back the Ballers, but this play capsulate the way things would turn out for the Ballers as Acosta gets his pocket picked. B.T.L.?s Scare Dem Bullets go on to post the 98-88 big W and it?s a stunner which ties the series at 1-apiece.
The decisive game three for all the money now comes up this Friday at Big Bird?s Isle, you won?t want to miss it.
Turning to the football scene, defending B.P.F.L. champion Sagitun took its unblemished season record into Orange Walk Town yesterday for date against Juventus of O.W.
The first real chance at goal for either ball club comes some dozen minutes into first half when Gabriel Ramos sets up Elroy Kuylen with the header. Unfortunately, it?s Kuylen who gets a boot to the head instead and there?s no call.
The home team responds with this press, but fail to take advantage of the opportunity.
On this Donny Tun centre, Oliver Hendricks almost moves the scoreboard, except for the interference run by the Sagitun keeper, Darren Hinds.
At the other end, Elroy Kuylen creates tension for the home fans with this left foot punch that bounces precariously past the O.W. goal mouth.
We?re still in the first half when Christopher Hendricks comes up with this imaginative heel that gives Juventus a 1-zip lead just before the half expires.
In the second half, Mark ?Kello? Leslie should have equalized for Sagitun with this chance, but he stumbles at the most inopportune time. However, Derys Benavides gets this chance to double the O.W. lead which he squanders by shooting straight to Darren Hinds.
Folks, we?ve got to say Elroy Kuylen should have converted right here and we?re sure he knows it.
Give Mark ?Kello? Leslie another opportunity at goal, and again he fails to tie the ballgame.
Juventus then finds its second wind, Derys Benavides fires, Hinds cannot control the pill, Harrison Roaches gets the rebound, but his offering can?t get past Hinds.
Now check out this Kevin Pelayo bomb from outside that forces Darren Hinds to make quite a spectacular save.
Okay, Sagitun has a final shot at the tie–obviously it?s not to be today. Sagitun loses for the first time this season in a 1-zip blast at Juventus.
In other results from around the league, the San Pedro Seahawks sunk Kulture Yabra 3-1, while Cayo Avengers kept Print Belize Griga winless in a 2-zip finish.
Thus after ten weeks of play Sagitun leads with 23 points, Juventus shows 20, San Pedro Seahawks 19, Cayo Avengers 15. That would be the four teams to make the playoffs if the playoffs began today. Kulture Yabra 12 points, Calcutta Bulls 11, Kremandala Lake also 11. And guess what? Print Belize Griga is yet to earn a point this football season, something must be seriously wrong. It?s too late to fix it, but it should be fixed nevertheless.
That?s it for now. We thanks our cameramen for their great work over the weekend, Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
