ICA celebrates 1st anniversary

Story PictureA celebration of Belizean art and culture was held at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts today. The event, called ICA Day, was in conjunction with the first anniversary of the Institute of Creative Arts, the successor to the Belize Arts Council. Activities included storytelling, drama, and elocution competitions for schoolchildren, entertainment by performing artists, and public information booths. Minister of Education and Culture, Francis Fonseca, congratulated ICA on their accomplishments in their first year as a branch of the National Institute of Culture and History, NICH, and urged young Belizeans not to be limited to imitating North American pop culture but to embrace our own music, dance, and comedy. Among the participating schools were Ladyville Technical High School, Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic School, St. Luke’s Methodist, Ebenezer Primary, Calvary Temple, and Gwen Lizarraga High School.
