A police officer is dead and his common-law-wife is in custody, accused of shooting him in the back. According to Belmopan police, they responded to reports of a shooting incident in the Las Flores area around seven on Sunday night. Constable Benedicto Salam was found wounded on the veranda of his home on Amapola Street and although he was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, was pronounced dead on arrival. Police recovered a point thirty-eight revolver with four live rounds and two expended shells in the cylinder at the scene. The weapon has since been identified as P.C.
