Jealousy results in stabbing of woman
Domestic violence usually takes the form of a fight between a man and a woman, but often a situation develops in which the squabble is extended to other participants, in this case with disastrous results.
Cairin Reid, Stabbing Victim
?I was telling her to stop because she no have to do that and she just di say, ?I will kill you. I will kill you.? That?s all she was saying and I was telling her to stop and all di neighbours the holler and tell her to stop because she has her kids them and her son was right there watching everything. But she just di say, ?I will kill you. I will kill you; this is my house. This is my house I will kill you.?
Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
Eighteen-year-old Cairin Reid is lucky to be alive. Sometime between eight and eighty thirty on Wednesday morning, the young mother of three children was stabbed repeatedly with a knife by twenty-three-year-old Earlene Johnson, who she believes to be her boyfriend?s former girlfriend. Reid says Richard Flowers had asked her to go and check on his house at number 6415 Fern Lane but according to Reid as she was about to lock the door and leave the residence, Johnson confronted her on the front steps.
Cairin Reid
?I see she di come up to me and she asked me, ?What are you doing with the key to my house?? I told her the boy said that she don?t live there again and she said this is her house anytime she wants to go there.?
Reid says Johnson then told her to leave the door open which she did and Johnson went inside the house. Reid says unlike what the police are reporting she did not refuse Johnson entry into the house nor did she take out any knife.
Cairin Reid
?When she gone inside she told me to come inside so we can talk like two woman, but I was going to work. So I tell her I am going to work so I can?t talk. So I gone to pick up my bag from the door because I put it down to lock the door.?
?They can?t take her statement and give that on the news. That?s just ridiculous. They can?t do that. Yesterday the police came here and they came here with an attitude. You can?t tell me what I did because you were not there.?
Reid says she does not know where Johnson got the knife but as she tried to reach for her bag at the door Johnson attacked her from behind. Reid received a total of six deep stab wounds to the left hand, the back and left shoulder. One of the stab wounds was so deep that it punctured Reid?s left lung and caused internal bleeding. The slash across the right hand is also affecting Reid?s ability to move her fingers freely
Reid believes that if the knife did not break as she was being stabbed she would probably be dead.
Cairin Reid
?When the knife broke, she had the handle in her hand and she said, ?You lucky this knife bruk.? And she was looking for the piece on the ground to continue stab me and then the next lady they were telling me to run and then I picked up a little bit of strength in my foot and I just ran across where my mom was.?
It is not certain when Reid will be discharged from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but it has been a painful recovery.
Cairin Reid
?This one right now is numb, numb. You could break it off and I won?t feel nothing. But when I try to open this other one, it hurts the whole inside of my hand up to my chest. So the doctor told me that afterwards, I will have to try and exercise it but he said he don?t think that I will be able to open it again.?
Reid says Flowers told her that he was single and that they had been dating for only one month. Today she says she has no interest in rekindling any love that has been lost between them.
Cairin Reid
?No, because it is hard fi make I…somebody do me something because of him and I then I still have he around me. It?s hard to make me do.?
?She never had no right to attack me because I never curse her, I never talk to her ignorant and I never stopped her from going inside the house.?
Following the incident Johnson was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm.
Reid says her handbag was left at the house while she was rushed to the KHMH and someone stole two hundred and ten dollars that was inside her purse.
