Pope?s visit to Belize remembered
At news time it appeared that Pope John Paul the Second did not have much longer to live. And while Roman Catholics in Belize number just under half the nation’s population, Belizeans of all faiths–and even those with no faith at all–will recognise that this Pope was a tremendously important figure during a remarkable period in world history. On March ninth 1983, John Paul the Second made his historic visit to Belize and our cameras were there. Here are a few clips of the Pope’s arrival at what was then Belize International Airport.
The Pope never saw more than the airport during his trip to Belize, which was part of a whirlwind tour of Central America.
