The former U.D.P. Minister also didn’t shy away from criticizing the Barrow administration, which he says is running the country into the ground. Elrington claims that rather than growing the economy; what government is doing at this point is running to Venezuela for a Petrocaribe fig leaf to cover its nakedness.

“We are living off borrowed money, we are living off the largesse of Venezuela. We have run the country’s economy into shambles. This economy has been run into shambles. It does not even exist. We live because Venezuela gives us handouts every month. That’s how we survive. Where is the creativity? Where is the ingenuity? Where is the talent? Where is the ability? Where are the goods that we should be producing? Where are the resources that we should be creating? Where are they? Is that what they talk about in the National Assembly…when they go to Cabinet? I have a feeling if you send somebody from primary school they would be able to give them some good lessons there. We can’t run the country with idiots in the Cabinet. It’s not possible. It can’t be done. You don’t say it because you like to say it. But if I am aboard an airplane and the pilot dies, needless you look at me. You’re wasting your time. I have no ability to fly that plane. The Cabinet is even more important. How are you going to put idiots in your Cabinet? That cannot happen. It is an insult. If people who have no idea of affairs are appointed to the most important positions of state…no training, no ability, no experience, no insight, no nothing…then what are they getting paid for? They are getting paid to do foolishness, to run the country into the ground.”

This is the most sensible thing I’ve heard in ages coming out of the UDP camp and an Elrington’s mouth since Ms. Eleanor. Yes, you all know me real well, especially her. Read my blogs, especially when I can plug in where I can about this PetroCaribe fiasco. I did so as recently as three days ago. YOU’RE SO RIGHT!

Hubert Elrington was one of the biggest possible flops in Belizean government. Completely incompetent as Min of Information. So I guess its a case of an insider knowing incompetence when he sees it…. And of course his brother Sedi has made a total hash out of the Foreign Ministry allowing both Guatemala and the OAS to run all over Belize. Shame on both Elringtons. Sedi needs to step down, and Hubert needs to go back into hiding.
