Security Guard Hurt During Placencia Burglary
There was a burglary in Placencia that could well be an inside job. On Tuesday night, in the span of an hour, between ten and eleven p.m., two men broke into A and L Construction owned by Albert Loewen. The armed thieves got into the business place after gagging and tying up the seventy-one-year old Salvadoran security guard on duty. As he fought to ward off the thieves, the security was stabbed to his thigh and was outmanoeuvred by the thieves, who took him to the rear section of the property facing the lagoon. Before leaving him there, they placed a wheelbarrow on top of him. But the elderly man was able to free himself and went to a nearby hotel to call the police. By then, the thieves had walked away with a safe which Loewen claims contained four thousand dollars in US currency, that’s eight thousand Belize dollars, and an additional eight hundred Belize dollars in cash. Police are investigating.
