Says P.U.P. is Ready Whenever Elections Are Called
Will general elections be announced on Monday during the Prime Minister’s Independence address? Many political observers say yes, and speculate that the big event will happen sometime in early November. The Prime Minister hasn’t said it won’t happen – only that it will happen sometime before March 2016. Fonseca says that the accord with the G-eleven was forged in the heat of looming elections, because the Party has to be ready, and will be ready whenever that day comes.
Francis Fonseca, P.U.P. Leader
“The Prime Minister has every right to call elections when he deems fit and we certainly expect him to call it sooner rather than later. So our expectation has always been that the window for the general election for Belize is between October and February or October and March of next year; that has been our position and we have to be prepared for an election at any time during that period.”

“Sir have you in some sense made whatever concessions were made with the knowledge that elections are imminent and it will overtake all the best made plan of mice and men and so all energies will be placed behind that so jump high jump low everybody has to face the polls and you know it is coming soon, certainly sooner than a national convention.”
Francis Fonseca
“I think we have all, all of us recognize that in the party and that is why all of us have come together to say that what is most important, what is our primary objective is ridding the country of this U.D.P. government. So yes that trumps everything else we are unified in that purpose but we will work through our process of making sure that we achieve those objectives of strengthening our national executive and strengthening our reform agenda because those things are important to our party and important to the people of Belize.”
Fonseca took the opportunity to state today that while the P.U.P. is ready for elections, they have not received any money from Lord Ashcroft.
