Accidents claim two lives in Corozal villages

A pair of traffic accidents involving bicyclists have resulted in the death of two Corozal men within hours of each other Saturday night. At around six-thirty, thirty-seven-year-old Ramsey Pol of San Juan Village was knocked down while riding on the Northern Highway near San Joaquin. The driver of the vehicle that hit him, fifty-one-year-old Roy Williams of Calcutta Village, told police that Pol rode in front of his Volkswagon and he could not avoid the collision. Pol was pronounced dead on arrival at Corozal Hospital. Less than an hour later a second knockdown was reported, this time on the road connecting Patchakan and Cristo Rey Villages. Found entangled in a heavily damaged bicycle was the lifeless body of thirty-one-year-old Joel Medina of Patchakan. Medina was the apparent victim of a hit and run. Reports indicate that a white vehicle struck Medina and sped off into the night. Police are asking anyone with information on this tragic incident to please call the nearest police station.
