Is U.D.P. Machinery Well-oiled Ahead of Upcoming General Elections?
With general elections thirty-six days away, both parties will be scrambling for money, and both have taken money from the only man with the ready cash to be a game-changer – Lord Michael Ashcroft. The P.U.P. has denied getting any money from Ashcroft, and now the U.D.P. is doing the same. While he didn’t go so far as to point to Petrocaribe, P.M. Barrow says that the U.D.P. has the resources necessary to mount a successful campaign to victory.
Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
“I don’t know who is going to be contributing what to whom, and all I will say is that we are focused on winning these elections. We are satisfied that we have enough wherewithal, enough resources to mount the kind of campaign that we need to, and we are convinced that ultimately the winner of these elections is going to be the Party that the people of this country believe will do or continue to do the best job for our nation. While money cannot be discounted, ultimately if people are with you, once Belizeans have made up their minds, and I think they are going to do so on the basis of sound and sober judgment, no money can cause the election to go other than the way it should.”

“Sir on the other hand the BCWU seems to be suggesting that you have accepted some money from Ashcroft in terms of campaign financing?”
Dean Barrow
“You mean now or in the past? Now? No…I completely dismiss that.”
