Police Stage Intervention With Supal Street Gang
In the wake of the weekend murder, Belize City police have staged an intervention with the Supal Street gang in an attempt to quell any ensuing fallout. According to Senior Superintendent Chester Williams, a meeting was held with members of the group on Monday to address the issues that led to the fatal shooting on Saturday morning.
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South
“As Mr. Cowo had rightly mentioned a while ago that yesterday we did a number of interventions. We did one with the Supal Street crowd and that is as a direct result of the shooting at Jamil Betancourt and the murder of Mister Robinson, which arose from the same incident. And interventions so far have been going well, but as is always customary, even though we do intervention to see how best we can calm situations down, the investigative process always continues. And Mister Romero and Mister Cowo and Mister Sanchez have been busy all day yesterday working on the investigative aspect of the shooting that took place in both North Creek and Berkeley Street. Their work has resulted in the arrest of the two individuals mentioned by Mister Cowo and they too were a part of the intervention yesterday. That is to say that even if we do the intervention, it does not mean that if you were found to be the culprit or the perpetrator of a crime that you will not be arrested and charged.”
