SJCJC Appoints First Female President
The Board of Trustees of Saint John’s College announced today the appointment of the first female president of the institution in the person of Mirtha Peralta. The new president holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from the University College of Belize and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida in the United States. She joined SJC in 2003 as a full-time member of the Faculty and Chair of the Business Department until 2009. Since then, Peralta has served first as Assistant Dean, Acting Dean and moving up to Dean in the Junior College Division. She has worked as chief academic and administrative officer with the larger school enrollment, where she has shown leadership in directing faculty and students in achieving human, professional and academic excellence. A release from the Board says that, “Peralta earned her distinction as a remarkably devoted, caring and personal teacher, always displaying an eagerness to embrace and live the Jesuit ideal of service to others.”
