P.U.P. Cayo South Candidate Julius Espat on the Campaign Trail

Julius Espat

Sitting area rep Julius Espat is also leaving no stone unturned, he too is covering the expansive constituency one household at a time.  According to the People’s United Party deputy leader, the issues that voters are facing in Cayo South are fundamental.  There is a lack of employment in the rural communities; there are no health clinics as well.  That’s just to name a few.  Espat says that his campaign this time around has been enlightening; it’s also different.

Julius Espat, Area Representative, Cayo South

“It’s been different. The last time around, I wasn’t known. The last time around, I had to go basically house to house which is a difficult thing in rural communities. Remember I have thirteen villages and we are up between seven thousand five hundred going to eight thousand voters. So this time around, we’ve taken a different approach. the advantage we have now is I have village leaders…for example, I have Mister banner is the chairman of Roaring Creek and in most of the villages, we have leaders that are elected and they have their troops that are assembled and we have been doing community work. So it is a different approach. We are having more public meetings; I’m going back to the old style. So we are having more public meetings where I can gather and speak to people. It’s been good; it’s been emotional to be honest with you. I didn’t expect the reception would be so good. I felt that we were doing fine and I felt that we were working hard, but I didn’t feel that the U.D.P.s would accept me in their homes the way they are doing now and that’s an awesome feeling. So I am pleased, I am very emotional. Cayo South has been good to us and we have been good to them and we sincerely believe that will win on November fourth, but it is not Julius Espat winning. It is the people of Cayo South that wants to put a team together that will be able to provide them with the services that they deserve. And they really deserve it. Our villages are asking for basic needs. They are not asking for luxury. They want more employment. I have been speaking with foreign investors that are interested in Cayo South; that looks positive. We want to reduce the crime so employment helps with that. The party has now put in its manifesto that we will be promising free education; that’s incredibly good for them. And in my case, I want to put a health clinic in each village which I think is basic; it is not something out of this world. And the basic infrastructure…we need to learn from the mistakes of the U.D.P. We will build the drains before we build the streets in Cayo South.”
