Offshore bank robbed in Belize City
Tonight police continue to investigate a brazen morning attack on the offices of an offshore bank in Belize City. According to authorities, around nine this morning two armed men hit the Provident Bank and Trust of Belize Limited on Barrack Road just as employees were taking money from inside the building to a waiting vehicle in the parking lot. News 5 understands that at gunpoint an unspecified but significant amount of money was handed over to the bandits. According to police, with their loot in tow, the robbers then jumped into a getaway car and headed down Hyde’s Lane but at the intersection of New Road, they crashed into a police vehicle, literally. Disabled but running, the bad guys managed to get onto New Road but within seconds were met by another mobile patrol at Victoria Street. Taking off on foot, the occupants of the vehicle tried to disappear into the urban jungle but tonight police say two men have been detained in connection with the robbery. The getaway vehicle has also been impounded and is being processed at the Queen Street police station.
