Bliss Institute Allowed To Deteriorate – Closed Due to Leaky Roof!

The Bliss Center for the Performing Arts is off limits. That’s the news tonight….it means activities at the dance studio and the auditorium have been canceled. The rains over the weekend caused the roof to leak and as a result, the flooring was extensively damage and there is a fear that the ceiling in the dance studio can collapse. Now the Bliss is the fittest public venue to provide a space to artistic institutions and those in the creative arts to express themselves. We could not get any comment from Institute of the Creative because the higher ups are away. But we did get a reaction from the Managing Director of the Belize national Dance Company, who says they have been affected.

Denese Enriquez, Managing Director, BNDC

“Unfortunately, the bad weather that the country experienced over the weekend and a few days ago really affected the Bliss in terms of the ceiling and the other areas and so we were advised that it would be unsafe for us to hold any of our activities here. Specifically the show and also the studio…the dance studio that the dance company uses as our main area of operation to run our daily classes for our kids as well as the dance company and the dance center; that too has sustained some damages and has been deemed unsafe to use. In terms of the studio, we have been advised for safety reasons, we cannot hold the classes in there because well the ceiling can really collapse at any time.”

“Has the flooring been damaged as well?”

Denese Enriquez

“Well yes, the floor was wet for most of the time. It is still wet to a certain extent. So whatever situation or whatever state the studio was in before, it got a little worse after the storm. It is not safe for us to be here at the moment. To answer your question, there hasn’t been any timeframe in terms of when the studio and the theatre will be repaired or fixed so we were advised to find alternate venues.”

  1. Marie says:

Why wait so long to express dissatisfaction, dancers and director should have been knocking at the doors of government, this is a symbolic building.
